ON THE WOMAN QUESTION

Directed and Choreographed by: Chantal Cherry
Performer: Chantal Cherry
Cinematographer: Gabriel

Original Score: Sebastian Reunert
Editor: Chantal Cherry

‘On The Woman Question’ is inspired by Iris Marion Young’s theories of the contemporary, urban female body as constructed to exist in a patriarchal world. Young argues that the result of the female body being shaped through historical, cultural, social, and economic contexts is that women tend not to use their bodies to their fullest capabilities and often believe themselves to be unable to do what their bodies are physically capable of doing. ‘On The Woman Question’ embodies these inner conflicts, depicted in the character’s desire for unattainable freedom while she remains in the constraints of mere object of desire.
