Tribute To My 12-Year Old is a solo that delves into the psyche of Chantal’s 12-year old self and gives voice to the little kid inside who was never heard. This work features set choreography of fluid, full-bodied movement, and improvised movement that abstracts a vocabulary that might be seen in a 60s disco setting. Chantal straddles imagination and reality as her character performs her 12-year old self sing-along style to emo punk rock and dancing around the living room. Tribute To My 12-Year Old touches on Chantal’s relationship with her dad and the ‘failure’ she is to him for choosing a life in the arts and allows her to perform what her adult self wishes she could say to him in real life.
